Snake River Sockeye Life-Cycle: Returns Enhanced By Lipid-Rich Ocean During Smolts’ First Year

While the number of sockeye salmon juveniles migrating out of the Snake River is generally correlated to the number of adults that return to the river, above average returns of adults is enhanced by a lipid-rich sea during the smolts’ first year in the ocean, according to a recent study by both Canada and U.S. fisheries agencies.
