Burbot in the Kootenai River in northern Idaho typically need cold water to spawn and live as adults, but a recent study that tested the thermal limits of juvenile burbot in the laboratory found they have an ability to survive variable water temperatures to as high as 31.5 degrees Celsius (nearly 89 degrees Fahrenheit), but at a cost.
