6. HOUSE APPROVES $65 MILLION

The House and Senate are close to agreement on the
Army Corps of Engineers budget for Columbia River
fish mitigation in FY2000.
The House on Tuesday passed its version of the
annual energy and water appropriations bill, which
included $65 million for the program, just $5
million less than the Senate amount. The Senate
passed its bill on June 19.
Most of the money is used for improvements to
salmon collection, transportation and by-pass
