Bureau Awards Nearly $3 Million For Winthrop National Fish Hatchery Repairs
Posted on Friday, January 28, 2011 (PST)

The Bureau of Reclamation has awarded a $2,992,745 construction contract for repairs to the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery located on the Methow River near Winthrop, Wash.

The contract was awarded to McMillen LLC, Boise, Idaho, on Jan. 19. The work involves removing and replacing outdated equipment and structures and installing adult holding and rearing ponds used for sorting and spawning adult fish.

“This construction effort will upgrade the hatchery and ensure Reclamation’s long-standing commitment to enhance healthy salmon populations in the Pacific Northwest,” said Reclamation Commissioner Michael Connor.

Funded by Reclamation and managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Winthrop National Fish Hatchery is one of three hatcheries, including Leavenworth and Entiat, which comprise the Leavenworth National Fisheries Hatchery Complex. Reclamation funds operation of the hatcheries to provide fish mitigation for impacts resulting from the construction of Grand Coulee Dam.
